description: Civil reference layers for the state of Virginia (<span style='font-family:&quot;Avenir Next W01&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next W00&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next&quot;, Avenir, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif; font-size:16px;'>address points, building footprints, parcels, bridges and culverts, and roads and rails)</span> are provided by the Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). <div><br /></div><div><b>Address Points (VGIN)</b>: Point feature class with address numbers and road names to complement the Virginia Base Mapping Program's (VBMP) Road Centerline (RCL) product by providing even more accurate geocoding results. Address Points can be used as a quality control resource for localities and VGIN for checking RCL address range and street name accuracy, which directly assists dispatch mapping systems. Address Points are data developed and produced by Virginia's Local Governments and sent to VGIN along with Road centerline updates. For more information, <a href='https://vgin.vdem.virginia.gov/datasets/8105f26377d2495f8eb8aeed0794fe7c/about' target='_blank'>see dataset metadata page</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Building Footprints (VGIN)</b>: Building footprints are polygon outlines of structures remotely rendered through digitizing of Virginia Base Mapping Program’s digital ortho-photogrammetry imagery, or digitizing of local government subdivision plats. VBMP building footprints are a collection of locally submitted data and as published from the Virginia Geographic Information Network carry no addressing, nor is there any ownership, resident information, or construction specifications provided. For more information, <a href='https://vgin.vdem.virginia.gov/datasets/994d0afa44c046498f9774613671ce9a/about' target='_blank'>see dataset metadata page</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Parcels (VGIN)</b>: Attributes for these Virginia parcels are limited to locality identification and parcel id. Tax parcel boundaries have not been edge-matched across municipal boundaries but they are associated by local government FIPS and locality name.</div><div>The boundaries are intended for cartographic use and spatial analysis only, and not for use as legal descriptions or property surveys. Not all localities within the Commonwealth of Virginia have confirmed a digital record for parcel geography or submit data with a bi-annual frequency. For more information, <a href='https://vgin.vdem.virginia.gov/datasets/29627d7c051a47dc8ce71b4484531ab3/about' target='_blank'>see dataset metadata page</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Bridges/Culverts (VDOT)</b>: This feature class consists of point features which represent physical structures that Interstate, Primary, Secondary and Urban roads travel under or over on all Virginia Department of Transportation maintained roadways. The dynamically generated points contained within this feature class portray the beginning of structures represented on the master route in the prime and the end of structures in the non-prime directions of travel. Features on or along the road (culverts, bridges, tunnels, parallel footbridges, etc.) and also features crossing the road (overpasses, culverts, perpendicular foot bridges, etc.) are depicted in this data. They are detailed further in the <a href='https://www.virginiaroads.org/datasets/VDOT::vdotbridgesculverts-ec/about' target='_blank'>dataset metadata</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Roads/Rails (VDOT)</b>: Road data come from the VDOT Bidirectional Traffic Volume dataset (2022). It is detailed further in the <a href='https://www.virginiaroads.org/datasets/VDOT::vdot-bidirectional-traffic-volume-2022/about' target='_blank'>dataset metadata</a>. </div>
